Who are you and why are you qualified to teach these classes?
I, Christian Seberino, have a Ph.D. in physics from the University of California, San Diego. I've been programming and using using physics and calculus for over 20 years. Why should I choose online classes?
Online classes are safer. Students can attend classes at home. Students' class experiences and the teacher can be more easily monitored than at a remote location. Online classes are more flexible. Students can attend classes while on travel. Online classes are more convenient. Parents can avoid traffic jams and long commutes both ways to each and every class. Online classes make financial sense. Parents save time and money by doing less driving, using less gas and avoiding parking fees
Why should I choose Phil4 online classes?
Phil4 classes are affordable. Classes are reasonably priced with freely available textbooks. Phil4 classes are rigorous. Classes meet College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and Advanced Placement (AP) requirements and earn college credit with passing exam grades. Phil4 classes are interactive. All class sessions are discussion oriented with lots of time for personalized help. Phil4 classes are innovative. What is the cost of each class and what does that cover?
Every class is $350.00 for the entire 40 week school year. There are no additional charges such as for books. Financial aid is available. Please don't be afraid to ask for financial assistance if necessary to not hold your child back.
When does each class meet?
Every class starts the second week of August and ends the second week of May (40 weeks). Every class meets for two interactive one hour sessions per week. Specific class times are available on the enrollment page here.
How is testing handled?
Periodic tests are administered to monitor progress. Students take tests on their own then email in scans of their work.
What are the prerequisites to be able to take each class?
The prerequisites for AP Calculus AB are about two years of algebra, one year of geometry and one year of precalculus training. Precalculus implies trignometry and other elementary functions. The prerequisites for AP Physics B are the same as for AP Calculus AB. The prerequisite for CLEP Algebra 2 is about one year of algebra training. Taking classes before the prerequisites are met is not recommended. On the other hand, a motivated student could easily make up a few weak spots while moving ahead.
What hardware requirements are there?
You'll need a computer with a decent Internet connection.
Can you help me if I have any technical trouble?
Of course! And don't worry about any extra fees for this.
Why should I take Advanced Placement classes when I can get college credit at a community college?
You can get college credit for Advanced Placement classes. Advanced Placement classes are often more rigorous than community college classes. There is a better chance good Advanced Placement exam scores will transfer to other colleges.
Where can homeschoolers take Advanced Placement tests?
Homeschoolers can contact nearby high schools and arrange to take Advanced Placement exams there.
